Why PNG?

Someone might ask, Why PNG? What are you doing there?

The simple answer is: Truth.

People who don’t know the truth are caught up in lies. People caught up in lies are forced to live in bondage to their beliefs and the beliefs of others.  It is a vicious circle in a difficult life that leads only to hiding, fear, death and suffering.

The truth is open to scrutiny. Truth sets people free. Truth excludes fear and hiding.

Jesus said, “If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Jesus also said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes to the Father but by me.”

So we see that truth is found in Jesus Christ. Therefore those who do not know Jesus Christ cannot be free.

Many people around the world have access to Bibles in their own language and have the opportunity to be free.

Papua New Guinea has over eight hundred indigenous people groups with their own distinct language.  Many of those people groups have never had opportunity to hear of the Good News of freedom through Jesus Christ in their own language.  Many are caught up in continuous payback killings, witchcraft, seances to determine the murderer whenever someone gets sick, fear of the dark, fear of the spirits and fear of the neighboring language group.  We want to give them the opportunity to be free.

Just as the “theory” of evolution is in direct opposition to God’s account of Creation in six literal days in the book of Genesis, so the beliefs of many people are in opposition to God’s written word. (The idea of millions of years of dead things directly opposes the truth that death came about due to Adam’s sin.) If someone does not know the truth, they should have opportunity to hear it. If they hear the truth and reject it, then they will continue to suffer the consequences of their own choices, not because they neer heard the truth.

Why PNG? Because much of PNG people have not heard that the payment for their sin has been paid in full by Jesus Christ on the cross and that eternal salvation is theirs for the transaction of believing the truth. We want PNG to hear the truth.

Romans 10: 9 “That if you will confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and will believe in your heart that God hath raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10  For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11  For the scripture says, Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed. 12 ¶  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14  How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15  And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16  But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias says, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17  So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Some people say that Papua New Guinea is the most “missionized” country on earth.  I would have to say that it does indeed have heavy influence from world religions on top of the underlying animism. However, religion has never saved anyone from eternal damnation.  Only faith in the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ, as the payment for sin that satisfied God’s righteous wrath, has saved a soul. “It is finished!” Until this message of a certain hope, true freedom and eternal life has been made clear in every language there is much work to be done in Papua New Guinea.
